More than 8 years ago, Brian (the Gringo) and Elier (the Cubano) met. This photo shows their first meeting! At the recommendation of a close friend, Brian sought out Elier's tour guide services to explore Viñales with his fiancé Lindsay. What started as a chance encounter has blossomed into a nearly decade-long friendship. Each time Brian and Lindsay came back to visit Viñales, the friendship between the Cubano and the Gringos grew. We started Viñales Inside to share our experience and provide others with an opportunity to do the same as what we've done. We want you to finish your vacation with experiences you will cherish forever.
As a lifelong resident of the valley, Elier Gonzalez is your connection for all things Viñales. In addition to being a tour guide and photographer, Elier plays percussion in Valleson, a traditional Cuban band. When you come to Viñales, Elier is your personal concierge and organizes all of the lodging, tours, and excursions.
We've been traveling to Viñales for almost a decade and want to share a different side of tourism with you. Through our experiences as Americans traveling to Cuba, we provide our perspectives, connections, and expertise to provide you with the opportunity to experience it like we did, INSIDE.
We landed in Havana and just a few hours later we were in Viñales, surrounded by mogotes, farmlands, nature and the amazing people. We coordinated from the US with Elier, our tour guide who made this trip so special. We started off with a visit to a tobacco farm where we smoked cigars dipped in honey, then took a boat ride through the Indian caves, stopping frequently to take in the stunning panoramic views. Horseback riding through the countryside, the cigar and rum tasting, everything was incredible. For Elier, it’s not just his job, he is passionate about the land, the people, and making sure you have a personalized cultural immersive experience while traveling to Cuba.
We explored Viñales with Elier as our tour guide for the week . The hike to the top of the mogotes for breakfast at sunrise and the oxcart excursion through the countryside to the organic farm where we ate freshly roasted BBQ pork and a cornucopia of assorted vegetables and fruits were unforgettable memories but it was the immersive and personal cultural experience that really made this trip awesome. Elier seems to know everybody and each person we met was so generous, accommodating, and eager to give us an unforgettable experience. Thank you Pinky and Amaralys for the incredible hospitality, your yucca nuggets are out of this world.
We did a private tour all around Vinales with Eli and it was amazing! Words can't describe how beautiful the Viñales scenery is. Panoramic views galore, the Indian Cave, prehistoric mural, abundant nature we enjoyed on horseback, zip lining, drinking best piña colada ever or coffee from the eco plantation, and learning about the real Cuba. A local family invited us to their house and prepared for us typical Cuban food - it was delicious! We also toured a tobacco plantation where we learned the whole process of cigar making, got to roll our own to smoke while we enjoyed glasses of rum in the Cuban countryside. Thank you Elier for your amazing spirit and your passion for what you do!
